Our Topsoil Testing Services
Topsoil Sample Collection - After the scope of work is agreed, the first stage of our topsoil testing service is to collect topsoil samples from your site or property or, if you want to take samples yourself, dispatch your topsoil testing kit with next day delivery. Our qualified technicians have experience taking topsoil samples and can ensure appropriate sampling techniques to make sure they are representative. The samples are then analysed in a UKAS accredited laboratory.
Laboratory Analysis - Our topsoil testing includes all relevant aspects of BS 3882 certification, needed for the movement or sale of topsoil, and analyses topsoil for a number of different properties including topsoil texture, stone content, organic matter content and pH, as well as, topsoil Carbonate, Nitrogen, Carbon:Nitrogen ratio and nutrients present in the topsoil. Our test also includes analysis of electrical conductivity, phytotoxic contaminants and visible contaminants.
Clear & Jargon Free Reporting - The results of our analysis will be presented in a clear and easy to understand report, detailing the quality and characteristics of the topsoil with regards to the relevant factors of BS 3882 and will include a declaration of compliance showing whether the topsoil meets the specifications of the standard. This report will also show the grade of the topsoil which can be multipurpose (topsoil that can be used in various conditions), acidic (topsoil with low pH), low fertility (topsoil with lower nutrient concentrations) or calcareous (chalky topsoil composed of a large amount of calcium carbonate).Ask a question →
Why Is Topsoil Testing Important?
Whether it's for use in farming, gardening or commercial plant growing, topsoil must have certain properties in order to gain the highest yield and grow the best quality plants to return the greatest profit. For example, farmers may need agricultural topsoil testing to ensure that their land will be productive in order to meet quotas on crop yields, while gardeners and commercial plant growers will require topsoil testing to ensure that their plants will grow at the speed and in the way they want; we happily cater for the requirements of both domestic and professional clients.
BS 3882 Compliance - There is also a standard (BS 3882) requirement, set by the British Standards Institute, that aims to ensure soils are fit for purpose and safe for the environment and humans. This makes our topsoil testing services relevant to a number of different sectors, including landscape architects, civil engineers and construction companies, as compliance will need to be shown to relevant authorities in order to complete projects. Compliance with this standard is also necessary for the movement and sale of topsoil.
BS 3882 Topsoil Testing Case Study & Review
Mr Kruger contacted us about our topsoil testing services, in order to confirm whether topsoil at his site complied with BS 3882. To keep costs and turnaround low the client opted to take topsoil samples themselves using our topsoil testing kit, which was ordered through our website. Following completion of the BS 3882 topsoil testing and associated report, including interpretation of laboratory test results, Mr Kruger kindly posted this review on our social media.
The online service this company offered reduced the complexity of carrying out a soil test. The logistics were smooth and both the sample collection and production of the report were carried out professionally and within the quoted time frame.
